Chitkara University today declared that leg 2 of the 13th edition of the prestigious Mahindra BAJA SAEINDIA 2020 has been successfully hosted. This event was organized by Chitkara University in collaboration with SAEINDIA and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. The event was witnessed by 31 of 77 teams from BAJA completing the endurance round in the mud trap. The event received a great response from all of India’s zones (Western, Northern, Eastern & Southern)
A total of 282 teams had registered for the 13th BAJA SAEINDIA 2020 edition, 253 of which qualified for the final. Just 37 teams were able to make it into the Endurance round. This year the BAJA SAEINDIA theme’ Breaking Conventions’ was celebrated by over 5000 students and faculty from different parts of the country.
Chief Guest and Guest of Honor were Professor Dileep Malkhede, Adviser, AICTE and Professor Dr. Sagar Maji, Director DITE (Delhi Institute for Tool Engineering), respectively. Professor Dileep Malkhede has called the four-hour endurance race off. The 2 km race track was made up of muddy pits, cliffs, and hills between 15 and 20 feet high. The event posed the tough challenges faced by the participants that pushed the students to their limits.
The event began with a simple static evaluation round containing design, cost assessment and marketing presentation. The teams presented their prototype in the final round, and were assessed on metrics such as engineering design, cost and progress in technology. The competition’s basic goal was to simulate real-world engineering design and its related challenges. Every team had a mission to create a safe, fun to drive, easy to maintain prototype vehicle.
The only limit to the design teams is that the project speed limit should be 60 kmph. The round of dynamic evaluation tested the vehicles for acceleration, sledge drive, suspension and traction. Vehicles undergoing a four-hour endurance test to determine the vehicle’s ability to operate continuously in a rough terrain with obstacles in any weather condition
Speaking on the occasion, AICTE advisor Professor Dileep Malkhede said, “BAJA is a revolutionary mechanism that revolutionized the country’s technical education. Through showcasing their engineering skills, students had the opportunity to explore their potential. BAJA is a dream and the efforts of passionate people could become possible. This is a process of getting people to succeed. It has also created a skilled workforce for the automotive industry. AICTE is pleased to financially sponsor Indian teams to take part in International BAJA. Each team we funded has demonstrated the ability of the Indian mind to conquer the world in the past 2 years”.
Sharing her experiences as the host institution, Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, University of Chitkara, said, “We are promoting hands-on learning on campus. BAJA SAEINDIA 2020 offers not only participating students but also other students of the host institution a rich learning experience. It gives emerging engineering talent a platform to demonstrate their talents and gain real-life experience while overcoming obstacles and challenges. It was a great opportunity for our on-campus students to connect with the participating students across the country. We had an encounter with mini India at the campus.”
